A representation of America’s Interstate highway network using the familiar symbology of a subway or transit map - coloured route lines, 45-degree angled lines, interchange “stations” and distorted/simplified geography. ‘Our Catholic people’ … ‘our alarm’ … ‘our firm objection’: The language is imperial and possessive. Who has the archbishop consulted, or is he just assuming agreement and the right to speak for half-a-million Western Washington Catholics?
— Seattle Post-Intelligencer columnist Joel Connelly, wondering whether Archbishop Sartain (the head of the Catholic Church in Western Washington) has bothered to ask the Catholic laity how they feel about the church taking positions against marriage equality and contraceptive coverage in health insurance plans.
